Gambling is addiction
Gambling is an addiction
“Gambling is an addiction” and that is a well know fact all over the world, however if we try to pin-point as to what is the exact reason of this addiction, we will not be able to find one specific reason causing this addiction. Nevertheless if observed closely we will see many habits which will be common among most of the people who gamble.
There has been an alarming increase in the number of people visiting the gambling centers/casinos etc. Often it is observed that families where the adults of the family are addicted to gambling and are pretty regular at visiting casinos, would also at a later stage end up with the kids of the same family getting into the same habit at a later stage of their lives (When they become adults).
Gambling is an irresponsible way of spending one’s money. With the present day technological advancements, we have various options of entertainment, ranging from games to 3Dmovies, which can be enjoyed with the entire family together. If thought over, gambling more often than not would leave the gamblers high and dry, whereas if they chose any other entertainment option for example a movie show; the first thing would be that the entire family would be able to spend quality time together and the second thing would be that there is no winning or losing in it, so the people don’t feel cheated at the end of the day.
All that happens in the gambling locations and set-ups is exploitation of the innocent people. Although each and every gambling center would know exactly what they are doing still we will never hear that the owner or management of the casino told anyone to leave because they had been excessively gambling. The gambling centers have seen many addicted people go on gambling for duration of 48 hours at a stretch but have still not asked the people to stop gambling and go back home. Even a bar, by law, has to turn people off if they are found excessively drunk. However there are no such like regulations for the gambling institutions.
The addicted gamblers can actually be recognized by the fact that in spite of losing continuously, they would keep on visiting the ATM and withdrawing cash in the hope of winning. Their whole focus is on that “One last chance”, which actually turns out to be many chances with no returns. This continued habit rapidly changes from a few hours to a few days and then to months and years of gambling.
The best thing to do in order to avoid gambling becoming a habit, is to stay away from it, from the word go. “Prevention is better than cure” is the most appropriate saying for the habit of gambling. It is better that we don’t get into such a habit and beforehand find alternative ways of entertaining ourselves. It is “better to be safe than sorry” in such cases. If we can focus ourselves and chose healthy alternatives of entertainment we would saves ourselves and our loved ones great deal of pain.
